The popular Star Wars fan theory that Supreme Leader Snoke would be revealed as Darth Plagueis in Star Wars: The Last Jedi seemingly died with Snoke, but the story could still be true for Star Wars: Episode IX, making Darth Plagueis the biggest Star Wars villain of them all. Is Darth Plagueis the biggest Star Wars villain of them all? The theories for Star Wars: Episode IX are sure to come in as much, if not more, abundance as there was for The Last Jedi, and the Darth Plagueis theory should be right up there as one of the best options for wrapping up the nine-episode Skywalker saga. Is the Darth Plagueis theory the best way to end the Skywalker saga?

The “Snoke is Plagueis” theory was born out of early speculation for Star Wars: The Last Jedi as fans scrambled to discover the true identity of the new villain and master to Kylo Ren, Supreme Leader Snoke. What is the Snoke is Darth Plagueis theory? Snoke was powerful! He controlled a powerful and loyal (minus Kyle Ren) military empire and exhibited deep knowledge of the dark side of the force. Furthermore, Snoke’s reluctance to meet in person with his First Order underlings helped conceal the fact that he was an artificial being. Why is Snoke deformed?Īccording to The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary (2019), Snoke’s physical appearance was purposefully designed by Palpatine to ensure his species remained unidentifiable. The reveal that Snoke was a clone in The Rise of Skywalker was met with both intrigue and groans, but the general verdict was that the being was a strand cast created with tissue and provided false memories. If that doesn’t sound bizarre enough, consider that Snoke is now biologically tied to Luke and the Skywalker lineage, making him a partial clone of the young Jedi. It seems as though Darth Vader is suggesting that midichlorians were extracted from Luke’s hand and placed within the pickle Snokes. While Snoke may remain the last mystery of the Skywalker Saga, an inclusion of Darth Plagueis’s genetic material means a tie to the Sith’s past. Star Wars and cloning Rey’s father was one of the “perfect” clones, and New Palpatine (and, presumably, Snoke) the Force-sensitive deformed clones. Though it’s not explicitly stated it does seem that it was a faired clone of Palpatine himself but there have been other theories wondering if there were attempted clones of Anakin Skywalker or Luke. So there it is, Snoke was created in the labs that we see at the end of The Rise of Skywalker. Snoke Is Not a Sith Lord During the time of The Force Awakens, many fans theorized that the next film would reveal Snoke to be Darth Plagueis, the Sith master who taught Palpatine the ways of the dark side.
